VIBE - Magazine Analysis

The colour scheme of the title page of VIBE magazine consists of 3 colours which are, black, white and yellow. Reason being is perhaps because these colours are quite vibrant, which attracts their target audience to read the magazine. The masthead, which is the name of the magazine VIBE, is written in a bold and large font; behind the cover star photo. The cover star of this issue is Usher and the shot of the photo taken is a medium/long shot to showcase the theme through his costume and props. The theme is a pilot type of theme as it shows a plane in the background and some sort of runway. The clothes and props that are used in this shot also represent the pilot theme as the bag suggests that he is on some kind of mission and the sunglasses seem mysterious. Anchorage is displayed as the text anchors the image and a skyline is also presented at the top of the cover page, which shows what else is featured in the magazine besides the main cover story.
The cover star is also shown on the contents page, maintaining the same sort of pilot theme however, this photo of Usher implies that he is the one boarding the plane rather than flying it. The photo is a captured once again as a medium/long shot with the text put on one side and the photo of Usher on the other side. Since the same props are used, Usher also has the same facial expression as he did on the cover page, which is a serious/no emotion type of gesture.

As for the double page spread (DPS) the layout is pretty simple as one whole page is a photo of Usher and the other page is a question and answer article. With this photo, it is more of a medium/close up shot and the theme isn't really presented here. Instead, it shows a hero/bond style theme as Usher holding the cigar symbolises a powerful status and high culture as usually, rich and classy people smoke cigars. As well as that, the smoke coming out looks quite edgy and is appropriate for the facial expression he is making which is once again, a no emotion sort of look. A pull quote is written next to the photo which links to the image as well as just the article. As for the actual article, the house style is consistent as the VIBE logo is at the top corner of the page and this is also shown on other several pages too, to ensure that people know that they are reading VIBE magazine. Basic colours are used along with the questions being in bold writing and the answers being in a normal font. The structure of the article is straightforward as each question and answer linked to it is broken up, which makes it easier for the readers to read as it is more clear. The columns are also well aligned, which makes the article look neat and tidy.
